Inspiration: Rustic Headboard
Living Etc. May 2008

040908vintage.jpgNormally, whenever we see anything "white washed" (or I guess "pickling" or "liming" could be another term), we usually associate it with the "shabby chic" / cottage look. While there's nothing wrong with that, it's just not what we generally gravitate towards. However, we've been finding ourselves more and more attracted to things with a bit of a rustic edge to them lately. We just saw this image from the latest Living Etc, and it is making us re-look at the "white washed" look in a new way...

We are loving the simple wood boards, lined up and flush for the headboard. Seems like an easy DIY project. The clean cut edges keeps it modern, and we also love the juxtaposition of the Saarinen-esque side table and lamp. Although we'd probably skip the lacy trimmed bedding, we do think it adds a nice texture. Perhaps maybe something with a waffle texture instead? We'd also consider throwing in a pop color throw or accent pillow. The white on white look can easily end up feeling cold, but we think allowing the wood tones to come through keeps the space feeling warm. Do any of you have this look at home or would consider doing it?

Can anyone tell me who makes that lamp? So pretty.

I am in love with those sheets. Can anyone tell me where they are sold or who makes them?

I want a sideboard/credenza that looks like that headboard! Simple, modernish shapes and lines, white-washed cottagey coloring. If anyone knows of a (national or New York) source that could oblige I'd be your slave forever.

in the issue (May 2008 Living etc)
it list the lamp as:"Azalea Lamp , Holloways of Ludlow for £195.05"
the sheets are vintage french linenes, from Beyond France £350 (includes the sheet and two pillowcases), the cushion is from Zara Home £19

Unfortunately all these sources are from England, sinceLiving Etc is a British Magazine, so no word if you can get them stateside...

Thanks Jonathan! Although, at $700US, I think the sheets are just a tad out of my price range. :)

Its funny I was planning on building close to the same headboard. You can get the wood at a home depot or similar store. I checked into the price and you could make that headboard for 40 dollars. I am new to this website but I will try and post my finished masterpiece when its complete.
