Set Design for Sex and The City Movie
Traditional Home July 2008

052808sexcity1.jpg052808tradhome.jpgFollowing up on yesterday's post on AT:NY, for all of you SATC fans, the July 2008 Traditional Home has a sneak peek at the set design that was done for the new movie. Being that time has passed from where the series left off, the set designers felt it would make sense that all the character's homes would have evolved as well...

052808sexcity2.jpgThe sets for the movie were designed Jeremy Conway (the show's original production designer) and Set Decorator Lydia Marks. Marks explained "Since Carrie is so involved in fashion, I thought it would be very believable that she would have new fabrics around her, so the curtains, upholstery and bed linens are all new for the film." Also the walls are now punched up with a bold blue.

I hope I'm wrong, but from the previews I've seen so far, the movie looks almost dated already. Is this even possible? I thought the old sets were elegant and chic. Maybe I'm the dated one.

When design takes priority, the result is often strange closets.

I'm so BUMMED. I completely agree with T8.

Carrie Bradshaw's apartment in the TV series remains classic and fresh from Season 1 through last. The set that I see from the move looks horrible. Ugh.
I was never a big fan of how they decorated Samantha's and Miranda's spaces. Charlotte's could be pretty WASPY cute, but Carrie's place ruled.

What's up with that outfit too??? Criminy.

Miranda's place is borrrring.

Samantha's LA place is booooring.

Charlotte's place is booooring.

Carrie's goes through several changes and I like them...I like the bold blue, I like the mirrored vanity...but it's all pretty "the same". I mean, it's great, but come on, they are letting the clothes shine in the movie, people. she wears over 100 DIFFERENT OUTFITS. it's amazing. i get room inspiration from her dresses for goodness sake.

anyway, if you're a fan of SATC, you'll love the movie. i did. can't wait to see it again this weekend.

'nuff said.

This spoils it for me. How much time is supposed to have passed? In 5 seasons their apartments didn't change a whole lot, and now all of a sudden Carrie has blue walls and a purple rug??

I'm still going to see it...I was too big a fan of the show.

Also, looks like Carrie suddenly has no radiator in her bedroom...

To be clear, the movie doesn't start out with the blue walls and stuff. Carrie redoes her apt. later in the movie. I just saw the movie and it was just as great as I had hoped it would be.

found it!
Jeremy Conway, production designer, dialed up the apartment's old pale blue walls with an intensified version, Benjamin Moore's Electric Blue. "We thought of it as bringing out her personality even more," he says
Benjamin Moore's No. 2061-40, is about $45 a gallon.

Considering I painted my apartment in various shades of blue, I was ahead of the game I guess.

Movie rocked!

"In 5 seasons their apartments didn't change a whole lot"?????
C'mon, Rebecca326... Miranda moved *twice*, Samantha and Charlotte once each. I'm not crazy about the set deco for the flick, but really, it was only Carrie's place that didn't change during the series.

Janegroup! I thought I was the only one fixated on those sheets in Sam's LA place. I plan to watch the movie for a 3rd time in the hopes of finding a clue in the credits. In the meantime, if anyone can help, I'm so sure you will make at least 2 people very happy! Thanks...
