Bookmarked: Jean-Michel Frank: The Strange and Subtle Luxury of the Parisian Haute-Monde in the Art Deco Period

atla-042908-jmfrank01.jpgWhen we went looking for a sofa, we wanted something strong and contemporary. Our driving image was Jean-Michel Frank, a French designer from the 30s and 40s. A contradiction in terms? Nope. Frank’s work is still influencing design today. Bleached leather; cushions upholstered in linen; shagreen; floor pillows; hide, sheepskin and sisal rugs; club chairs; African influenced stools; urn lamps – if you’ve got any of those in your house, then Frank’s had his way with you.

Pierre-Emmanuel Martin-Vivier’s new book is a comprehensive look at Frank’s career, encompassing both his tragic personal life and his illustrious designs. Available through Amazon
