Homestrology: Look To The Stars For Your Decorating Style

093008-stars02.jpgDoes a Libran decorate differently than a Scorpio? What about a Capricorn? Or a Virgo, a Gemini or a Leo?...

Homestrology seems to think so. Are you a Taurus? Try earth tones and strong pieces. A comfortable chair to relax in is a must. Sagittarius? Make room for a game room in your home...or a least a dart set or a weekly poker game. Pisceans connect to water. Think sea foam colors and rounded objects. A meditation room's a good idea for these folk. Check out the suggestions for your sign and then let us know in the comments. Have the stars influenced your decor?

well, once a long time ago i decided to surprise a spacenut boyfriend by putting those glow in the dark stars on the bedroom ceiling. i made sure to have both our signs in the stars together. so every night we went to bed, the stars would be glowing above us.

oh...but the homestrology doesn't really fit. it says "frilly" for libras...like pink lace canopy beds. not at all my style. i'm much more modern and streamlined. not really frilly, but possibly glamorous.

oddly enough, because I really don't believe in this, it seems to fit...

dM, I agree Homestrology is weird science... as a Gemini, I am not into Orange and Yellow, more Blues and Greens. As to the character assassination, yikes!! Gossip and tattle tale?!!! seriously, the astrology bs out there because we're supposed to be twins makes no damn sense...are biological twin's broken down in this context individually i.e. one is pure as the driven snow the other an anti-social sociapath.

For kicks, here's Libra. It's a load of hooey, truth be told.

"Traditionally feminine, but ever so graceful, is the way to go here." TRUEish.

"A canopy bed with lace, or even better, something frilly and sweet. " NOT!

"For window treatments, choose sheers that blow in the summery breeze." True.

"Try a vase with a single rose on one end table, and on the other a framed photo of some romantic spot for two." NOT.

"Televisions, stereos and other electronic equipment should be well-concealed behind closed doors, room dividers or wall hangings." TRUE

"Choose clear glass or crystal vases, perfumes holders or candles sticks." TRUE.

"Porcelain and china have that natural lightness to them, as well." TRUE.

"Paintings for the wall should be pastoral images—nothing too obtrusive." NOT, although I don't care for anything that is in fact too obtrusive. Duh.

"Mirrors work wonders to double the space, but some neatly arranged books and magazines suit your intellectual interests as well." TRUE.

"Candy dishes should be deliberately placed around the house, since yours is the sign of all things sugary and sweet." NOT.

"Pink is traditionally given to your sign, and it's not a bad fit." NOT, though I do like coral.

"Add throw pillows with frilly edges to the sitting room; pink cushions on the patio chairs complement the green of the lawn." NOT.

"Of course, pink in the bedroom is a go." NOT.

"Or turn to green, the actual color of the planet Venus. A bright and shimmering green, Kelly or grass green, is most suitable." NOT.

"A heightened sense of color is your greatest design strength." Oh, well thank you. TRUE! ha.

"You are sweet, light and feminine. However, you are most of all sophisticated." TRUE, if I dare say so myself.

"Relationships are important to you, which we see in your careful balancing of pairs: two candlesticks on the mantle, two bookends for the shelf, two matching lamps around the sofa." NOT.

I'm an Aquarian. I am quirky and rebellous, and it shows in my decor. I use a basic color pallette of dark teal and slate gray, and my daughter's room is based around her rainbow bedding. I did pick shades based on a photo I took where the stormy sky met the sparkling teal waters with a rainbow. I thought the combination of colors was amazing. It's not as tacky as it sounds ;) Or maybe it is, I don't care.

I also use strange items in unconventional ways, like a side view mirror from an old truck standing on its side as a touch-up mirror on my dresser. Everyone always comments on it, asking where I bought it, then a lightbulb goes off when they realize what it is.

I also have to say Aquarians tend to be one extreme or the other in the way they run a household; they are either neat and extremely tidy, or the most chaotic (yet under control) homes you know. We don't seem to stress, so as long as it's OUR mess we know exactly where to find something in a pile of papers on the spot and we tend to have a refrigerator filled with an odd assortment of unusual foods. We are the black sheep of the Zodiac, but we like it that way. It means we aren't cookie cutter and that sense of individualism makes us proud.

(And we have two telescopes.)

My best friend is a Libra to the T, and all that mambo above fits her. I dread her pink and matchy matchy accessories.

Help! My Libra pinks are clashing with my husband's Gemini oranges!

LOL silly advice, but an entertaining post for sure.

Hmm. Cute. But this is just for laughs, nothing more.

Just because your sun is one sign, doesn't mean that it dominates your personality, or your style and taste in home decor.

For me, my sun is in Gemini, but moon, jupiter, uranus, and neptune are all in Sagittarius. So yeah, yellow is a good color for Gemini... but the bright jewel tones suggested for Sagittarius make more sense for me.

Astrology isn't as simple as everyone thinks it is.

No, astrology isn't simple-but it is nonsense. Amusing nonsense, but nonsense nonetheless. This entry goes with the one about renting a haunted apartment.

Apparently nothing in my home should matter except the gym.
BLEH.
I am definitely an A-typical Aries.

Entertaining. I'm a gemini - it was pretty spot on - I love that it said my fav appliance in the phone, my boyfriend is a Taurus - and that seemed pretty spot on although I'm not sure if he's into plants as much as they described. And my best friend is a Libra - they it was TOTALLY OFF. LOL She is edgy and modern and not frilly - glamorous and sensual maybe - but the pairs thing is interesting...you'd think they'd put that for gemini. whatever. all in good fun

Well, it was actually reasonably accurate for my Pisces self-- blues and greens, curved lines/shapes, a few fishtanks, a deep affinity for water in general. I attribute a few of those things to growing up on a Great Lake, though, sooo...

The sign and planet sections were right on, as most things they say about Virgos are. However I hate autumn flowers, but do like greenery to a fault. My love of colors does not include "wheat" because if you're going to go light, go white, and let your accents shine. But I do craft, including cross stitch and a burgeoning talent for embroidery. So, not far off, but I wouldn't base my future around this any more than I would a particular chair.
