It's refreshing in an age of particle board, factory made furniture to see something that is actually handmade.

We stopped dead in our tracks when we saw this kitchen at CA Boom, it was so simple and frankly, beautiful. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that it was all made by hand, locally. John McDonald, the man behind Handmade, a custom furniture and cabinetry company, is passionate about wood and makes every piece himself (with the scars to prove it). His pieces are custom in every sense of the word and made from solid wood, no particle board here. We love his attitude and his clear love for what he does. He's into all projects big and small, for home, office or retail. Check out his website: a handmade home or give him a ring at (323) 383-2009.
What stunning workmanship.
Please post more local craftsman resources like this please!

What's so refreshing about expensive furniture? Did someone fall in a wad of mortgage-debt-free cash or something? Are the AT editors out of touch?

Sometimes you can like things even if you can't afford them.
..you know... like a diamond-covered skull.

Beautiful pieces; wish they were in my budget (even at affordable prices, shipping would kill me).

I think SeanG's point goes more to this post's surprise that things are still hand made when in fact at a certain price point there is a tremendous amount of custom work being done by many talented artisans.
While I do want to read pieces about design out of my price range I also hope that these types of posts are placed in context.

I think you guys would be surprised how reasonable custom stuff can be. Not all of it, but some. Most people don't even think to inquire - and yet spend nearly as much or more at places like R and B and C and B. Of course, I'm biased...
