As promised I said I would give a before and after of my disgusting office that I confessed to last week here at AT. The landlord got a last minute carpet appointment on Saturday AM over the weekend so we had to scramble to get the room cleaned out in prep. I had hoped to have a couple of weeks to plan with shopping sprees at Ikea but the best that could be done at this point is a full purge.
Also as expected, the carpet cleaners were able to do said cleaning inside the house with the dry-clean process, after our landlord told us the rugs would need to be removed and cleaned outdoors. His information prompted a 1/2 day at work on Friday because I knew it would take me hours to sort through everything. 5 hours later the room was dismantled and purged of boxes and art supplies that were no longer needed.
I did roll a couple of coats of a pretty blue onto my recycled door/art table and present ikea boxes to add a bit of color. Next up some sheer drapes to replace the decaying blinds. Over all the housemate and I are really happy
to have have the carpets cleaned, and to get rid of the junk cluttering our lives. The office is not revolutionary design that is for certain, but it's clean and functional and for the time being that's all we need.
I love what you did with the desk. What paint did you use? Did you do anything special to prevent it from sticking to things you put on the desk?

sadly, I just used flat wall paint...I don't expect it to hold up very well it already has crazy scratches in it.
I just happened to have it in my gargage and went with my crazy time line I had to follow Friday night.
If I had to do it over again I think I'd do a high gloss and seal it with something.

i don't think it's too late to polyurethane the desk. you can use flat or glossy.
i love how clearing out the clutter and a few changes makes such a huge difference. i might add a few more touches of blue around the room to balance out the desk. the molding around the bulletin board as one example.
nice work for a few hours.
