Lemon Oil for Keeping Shower Doors Clean?

While looking into ways to clean our shower door, we came across Real Simple's take. They suggest "...After a thorough cleaning, an application of lemon oil will help serve as a shield from shower grime. Twice a month, apply a generous coating to the shower door with a soft cloth. (The best cloths to use are soft cotton rags or microfiber cleaning cloths.) Real Simple likes Holloway House Lemon Oil for the purity of its scent, but any lemon oil should work well. If the etching on the shower door is deep or prone to buildup, treat it with lemon oil once a week. This extra step will protect your glass or fiberglass door and freshen your shower between deep cleanings. "...

Has anyone ever tried this? Does it work? Any recommendations on the best brand of Lemon Oil?

Lemon oil, baby oil--these will prevent new spots, but they won't get rid of old ones. I like Bar Keeper's Friend, or that orange gritty hand cleaner sold for mechanics. Rule of thumb: if Real Simple recommends it, it's junk.

A thin rubbing of lemon oil also gets fingerprints off of stainless steel appliances. Don't use too much or it attracts dust. I've never found a stainless steel cleaner that could beat it.

I have used the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and thought I had bought new doors after it and then I bought an Ettore squeege to try to maintain it.
