Lint Balls

atla-060608-lintball01.jpgIf you have a pet, everyone knows it. You wear as much hair as your pet does. Picking it off with a lint brush or tape is a time consuming task. So you just avoid it and hope that no one is secretly referring to you as "the crazy cat lady" or the "fuzzy dog guy".

These reusable lint balls, actually nylon microbrushes, grab ahold of hair, crumpled tissues and towel fuzz without harming clothes. With these in your laundry arsenal, you'll know that any nicknames you get aren't because of your furry clothes. Available here

I do.
I think people are crazy dog ladies/men.

As someone without pets due to allergies and a severe aversion to stray hairs (including mine... eew) when I see someone with a fur covered fleece jacket (one person in particular) I'm totally creeped out.
How do you not care about your appearance enough to even TRY to leave the house fur free?

But that's just me.

as the "mom" of 2 dogs and 2 cats, you do try. i don't get dressed for work until i'm ready to leave, i have a lint brush in my desk and in my car. fur is extremely difficult to get rid of, no matter how hard you try...

Any one tried them? If they work at all, I'll buy them. At least I am glad to know I'm not the only one with a lint rollers stashed everywhere (home, the office, my boyfriends).

Chickchick,

I totally get your point about fleece--for some reason fur gets embedded in it worse than with other fabrics. Black fleece is the worst.

Like animalhouze, I have lint rollers everywhere and get dressed at the last minute, right before I leave the house. But my best weapon against the shedding of my two large dogs is my Dyson vacuum cleaner--I would recommend it strongly to anyone with pets. I have the regular one, not the one especially for pets, and it works great.

clickchick- since you don't have pets it's no wonder you don't get why we're always covered in fur, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IT ALL OFF. Lint brush/tape all you want, the stuff is impossible to get off. It's all part of the trade off of living with animals, they give you so much joy a little fur in return is worth it.

That said, I would love to know if these work as well! I may have to try them.

clickchick says: "How do you not care about your appearance enough to even TRY to leave the house fur free?"

Well, that is assuming a lot right there.

First, we may be on our way to get even more fur-covered. People that work with animals all the time, may be covered with fur. Groomers, pet supply clerks, professional dog walkers, animal caretakers, etc.

Have you ever had to do dirty work? Or somewhat dirty work? Anyone who has done gardening or bush trimming probably has clothing they where only for those purposes. Nope, I don't get all gussied up when I know I'm going to be covered in soil and get green stains from the plants. That would be foolish.

I learned not to wear certain things when I get my hair cut, because those little hairs get stuck and are like prickles. Ouch.

What about wall painting? How many people here have a painting t-shirt or pants that have paint splotches on them? You don't wear new clothes to do painting. You don't do your hair, your makeup and you don't wear heels either. At least I don't.

So, when I'm on my way out, into nature, to watch animals and birds, knowing full well that I will be exposed to the fur of cats, raccoons, skunks, possums, mice, shrews, foxes, I don't go out in my finest clothing.

I know I will run into at least one of those critters, plus birds. And I will be covered with green stains, grass seeds (like foxtails), pollen (like wild radish or hemlock), spider webs, and the occasional spider rides home on my head.

The hair that gets stuck on my fleece is there unless I can vacuum that clothing. Lint brushes and tapes don't work on fleece. Cats inside don't like being vacuumed. And I don't have an extension cord long enough to try vacuuming the local wildlife.

The skunks and I get along. I think that "get along" part would end if I introduced a vacuum.

But guess what, the hair that is stuck to my fleece has been washed.

I do suffer allergies too, so I know what it's like. However, I haven't had any luck at changing the entire planet to suit me and wiping species of plant life away to make it more convenient for me.

What we can do, though, is to exchange our stories and tips and ideas so that we can all get along.

By the way, folks, the vacuuming of fleece DOES work, but it takes a LONG time. Some hairs still have to be pulled off individually. It's like plucking your eyebrows, except your eyebrows are now 4 sq ft. covering a big fleece jacket.

Wait, make that 8 sq ft, because one has to do the inside too.

Please, clickchick, have mercy. I have 2 white cats; one long haired, one short. White fur is the worst! Despite my best efforts and a committed de-fuzz lifestyle (I have an arsenal tape rollers, magic sponge, lint brush, anti-wrinkle spray, a strict no-fleece policy...), I'm resigned to the fact that Eli and Tulip are with me wherever I go. It makes me crazy, but my cats are worth it. I just pretend it's a texture coat of love and live with it.

I'll give these a twirl and report back. Keep your fingers crossed...

P.S. Anyone ever check out Sticky Sheets? I haven't seen their TV ads for a long while--are they still available?

Ditto on that comment genjenn. I have a black and white that is adorable, but man is his fur difficult to get rid of. Coincidentally, we just made a trip to Costco this weekend - lint rollers in bulk!

Oh and clickchick - I'm allergic also, but the joy of my cat is too hard to resist.

I posted my first comment... mostly tounge in cheek. Feeling a little snarky that day.. ya know. Thatks for not beating up on me too badly - i was trying to be funny.

I do have sympathy for folks in the no-win battle over pet hair. ... It's just that ... honestly... I don't even like my own hair clinging to my clothes. Some people call me anal retentive!
