AT Los Angeles special correspondent Jonathan Lo sent us this store review about a new found favourite down in the OC:
A few months ago, I had seen this "herb ladder" planter thing in an European design magazine. I was obsessed to figure out where I could get one. A quick Google search lead me to EmmoHome.com. The online store had a great selection of modern accessories from the likes of Alessi, Artineca, Areaware, Boon, and Menu, the Scandinavian brand that made the herb ladder I wanted. Just out of curiosity, I looked up where this company was based. I just assumed it would be somewhere in New York, or overseas, but to my surprise- it was based right here in Orange County! Emmo Home recently opened up their very first retail store in Costa Mesa, where we rushed over to get a first hand look...
Owner Andrew Kim started Emmo Home after having a similar experience. He had difficulty finding a product he saw in several magazines and design blogs. That search gave him the idea to create Emmo Home. He wanted to provide a place in Orange County for others seeking similar products.
The shop is small but packed with tons of fresh modern goodies. Everything from kitchen items, to pet accessories, to furnishings, to even the new sound system from Geneva are in stock (oops, we were just told that the XL and large systems are not physically in store, alongside some Kartell items, but can be ordered) and ready to take home. Speaking of "in-stock", that's one thing that Emmo Home prides itself on. Almost all the items on the website are physically in-stock at Emmo Home, as opposed to being "drop-shipped" by the manufacturers- This means you don't have to allow the traditional wait of several weeks as many online retailers do. And if any problems should arise, or you have questions, or even specific requests- Emmo Home promises to do everything it can to satisfy the customer.
If you're in the Orange County area, definitely hit up the shop. The location is a little tricky to find, but after you get there- you'll be glad you did. They are located in the South Coast Homes Furnishings Centre, which is just north of South Coast Plaza and a few blocks from the big Costa Mesa IKEA. You can see the sign for the center off the 405 freeway. Click here for a map and directions or call 714.438.3952 - If you're not going to be in OC, everything in store is also online, so check it out here.

[Thanks Jonathan!]
I really, really love that little cement building. It looks like many homes in Jordan.

The building planters are by Nobuhiro Sato. AT blogged them here: http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/plants-flowers/truss-planter-by-nobuhiro-sato-063155

Thanks, happiness! I went on the website but they're not in the planters section, despite the poster's assurances that "everything in store is also online."
Thanks again!

Hi Griffin-
My apologies, I actually shot the images above a few weeks ago when I went to visit the shop. I just contacted Andrew at EmmoHome- Apparently the planter is pretty popular and I guess from the time I shot the image, to today's posting, they sold out, so they had removed it from the shop. However, Andrew said he just got a new shipment in and they'll put up a link again later today.
