Traditional Desk Chair or Something More Stylish?

She preferred to have something that better complemented the decor in the bedroom, but perhaps wasn't as comfortable. The he said/she said discussion about home office task chairs over at Unplggd invites you to weigh in about your own experience of furnishing the home office/workspace, hopefully with a task chair that looks good and feels great...

I've tried my whole life to have, and use a "desk". Even as a kid we just did our homework on the sofa or on the floor with pillows or at our big dining room table.

Personally, I've given up on the whole dedicated desk concept. I have an old 1930s cabinet with two deep shelves and a drawer that I to hold desk supplies, files, etc.

Takes us less space than a desk, and also doubles as a landing strip or, when I'm entertaining, a bar on the top.

Thankfully, I don't have to spend much time on my computer when I'm at home, so no clunky office chair for me. I guess if you had a dedicated office and could just shut the door, it wouldn't make much difference, but my desk is in my bedroom so I have an upholstered side chair that does double duty as a place to put on shoes, do craft projects, etc.

If you use the desk more than, say, an hour a day, get the ergonomic chair. Decor isn't worth ending up in traction.

Comfort every time!!!

Plus, the aeron isn't bad looking... And the Eames Aluminum Group and Soft Pad chairs are gorgeous.

My partner (the software engineer) has a home office and is allowed to work remotely if he wants to, especially in nasty weather. He sits in his office, sometimes, for hours on end. He has an ergonomic rolling desk chair.

I have a computer station in the "library" and a little writing desk in my bedroom. I sit at the computer for maybe an hour at a time, max -- rarely that, since I sit at one all day at work. So that chair is a comfortable Pier One side chair. Not erg, but suitably attractive for that kind of space, compact and functional. The writing desk in my bedroom is essentialy for show. It holds the phone, sometimes my laptop (but not really used there), a pretty notebook and pen... The side chair there is a wonderful thrift store find that is strictly decor. It's ok to sit on, but purchased for the elaborate carved wood. It makes me smile!

So I guess I think it depends on how long you have to sit in the chair, how supportive and functional it needs to be (vs. merely attractive.)
