If you're looking for a gift for a non-fussy guy, these new candles from Baxter may be just the ticket. Baxter, a California based men's grooming products line, has joined up with fragrance company Joya to launch their new line of candles targeted for men called "Flammable."...
It comes with a custom matchbox, and we're liking the bold no-nonsense graphic type on both the outer box and silkscreened on the glass. The packaging is designed by Marc Atlan. They are soy-wax based and only come in black. There are three scents, "Cassis Noir", "Jasmin Noir", and "Tubereuse Noire" and can burn for about 70 hours. ($45) Available at Baxter.

If you are looking for a gift for a non- fussy guy, you would NOT be buying something as fussy as scented interior candles in the first place.
Hell, I would not buy scented interior candles for a guy, any guy, fussy or non- fussy, ever. I am still debating whether I would buying something as silly as that for a girl. Well, perhaps, if I think it would be a girl that is into that sort of stuff.
One of the customer organizations in Europe did a study a couple of years back and found that those candles did pollute the rooms to the point that the air in the rooms was less healthy than the air in a street with car traffic. Go figure. Instead of candles, better open a window and ventilate, if you ask me. Or buy a set of sweet smelling flowers. Much nicer.

Oh, a little pollution never hurt anyone. At least the room smells better.

I think products like this are long overdue. The entire interiors industry has been almost exclusively targeting women. That said, I suspect $45 is too steep given that this is really a "gateway" product designed to sway a resistant constituency to give candles a shot. Even if a man is given one as a gift, I guarantee they are going to respond with a gasp and sticker shock when they go to pick up another one for themselves. And that might be the end of their candle fixation.
Gentlemen (and ladies buying for the gentlemen), if you are up for a $50 candle, also try Apothia's Soul or Bronzed scents, Catherine Memmi's Moka, Cafe Noir, Bois Mousse, or Atlas Cedar, or Molton Brown's Black Pepper.

I picked up a "Woods" scented candle from Archipelago because I thought the BF would enjoy the fresh (cedar?) scent.... and I LOVE its smell. Its a refreshing change from heavy floral or food scented candles.

$45 for a candle? WTF?

if you're going to give a guy a candle, why not give him one that smells like strip club (I guess that means it smells like fried foods and cigarettes.)

Richard, you know a lot about $50 candles, so are you part of the resistant constituency? I would not discount MEN as unsophisticated animals that do not appreciate the "finer things".
Men can appreciate quality just as much, if not more than women can.
I can guarantee that you are wrong about men coming back to re-purchase, because this guy did an does, like you and your plethora of alternatives at $5 more.
just an ODD post.

Let me clarify, marware. $2 billion dollars were spent on candles last year and women accounted for 94% of those purchases. Most men don't purchase them. So while men can appreciate quality, they don't indulge in candles. They aren't on the radar. You and I are the very rare exceptions and that is a shame because most men are clearly missing out. Charging them $45 for a product they don't believe they need and have done fine without is not going to change anyone's mind and it certainly won't do anything to expand the circle of buyers. Men, as a candle constituency, are going to need to be wooed a bit. And this price point strikes me as a bucket of cold water.
