"Art for your everyday." We've blogged the Designer Plate Series by Poketo here at AT:LA before. We recently checked back to see their newest edition is a fun burst of hyperreal colors via a fantasy of birds and flowers. A fresh sight during these recent days of rainy gray...
Created by designer Oksana Badrak, a Moscow native who actually went to school locally here at the Art Center College of Design, in Pasadena. She's created two different sets of two for Poketo- Birds of a Feather Plate set 1, and Birds of a Feather Plate set 2. They're 10x10 inches, melamine, and are dishwasher safe, (but not microwave safe.) $28 for a set, at Poketo.
I love the idea of "art for everyday." Joan Didion famously said, "Everyday is all there is" when someone chided her about using good silver/china without an occasion.
Using the good stuff everyday has two benefits: first, it makes you feel good, and second, it reduces clutter because you no longer need a set of crappy everyday dishes.

It seems this Feather Plate set is made in China. I mean the style is very alike. I have been to China, and have seen the similar artwork.
