Blank Matryoshka Nesting Dolls

022808_russia.jpg
We're still charmed by the whole Matryoshka Doll trend but know that we'll probably grow out of it...

So we're loving these blank nesting dolls from Reform School. They offer just enough of the trend to satisfy our appetite but also present the possibility of painting our own faces, painting them a solid color, or stenciling some graphics onto them. Even leaving them natural could suit us. We kind of love the idea of keeping kitchen spices in these or spare keys on our landing strip. If we had kids we might leave their allowance in each one from biggest to smallest. They'd be a great gift too, each one holding a little something. How would you use these? Do you own some already that you use for more than decor?

Huh, maybe it was just the butt plugs comment ahead of it, but now that you mention it, "landing strip" does sound a little dirty.

As to the matryoshkas--I didn't know they were a trend. Mine are the real deal--I picked up a nice set when I was in Russia about 10 years ago. I was a student at the time, and I scraped up all the money I could to buy a set that I would be proud to display.

I have a set of these. I bought them a few years ago from a local art supply store and was happy to leave them blank for a long time and entertain ideas for decorating them. Now I know what I want to do, but it's a secret. Maybe I'll send pictures. ;)

Matryoshkas will never become just a trend! As to leaving them blank- that is a travesty in my opinion. I buy blank ones and paint them. I prefer traditional designs, but make my own designs, usually based on a particular theme. I like to combine patterns, and I am beginning to suspect that the use of plaid will be my trademark! If you'd like to see them check out matryoshkasbysallie on etsy.com. I'm always thinking of new designs to try.
