Glass Cloches and Alabaster slabs

0800907glasscloche.jpg
In French, the word "cloche" translates to "bell", and is often used to describe the glass dome shaped "bell jars" originally used to protect plants from cold or frost, as well as help speed up the maturity process. Lately, we've been seeing these bell jars coming back as a current hot design trend, and West Elm has a fun modified version of their own. These Glass Cloches are available with an mix-and-match alabaster slab base (sold separately)...

Because they have an opening at the top, they can be used like a hurricane lamp, and are ideal for a pillar candle. There is also a sphere version. West elm also shows them filled with small decorative objects, like some sea shells or starfish, to help bring back memories of seaside escapes... Currently on sale, prices start at $34.99 for the closhes, and $7.99 for the bases. Selection is limited online, so we'd recommend trying to go to one of their stores as well.

Any good ideas for fillers other than starfish / seashells?!? I love this look, but the shells are most def. not my decor style.
