How To: Make a No-Sew Throw

atla-051508-blanket01.jpgAt a baby shower we attended recently, one of the gifts was this amazing and amazingly soft fleece blanket. We never knew that our friend was so handy with a needle and thread. Turns out she's not. This blanket's completely no-sew. All you need is two pieces of fleece and a scissor. You can also make a pillow or a scarf using the same method. How-tos after the jump...

  1. Lay out two same-sized pieces of fleece, one on top of the other, right side facing out. Our friend used two 1 yard pieces.

  2. Cut squares out of each corner.

  3. Cut 1" wide sections of fringe to match the corner cuts. Our friend suggests 4" fringe.

  4. Tie the two side together using an overhand knot. At the corners, cross over the fringe so that the bottom left reaches over the top right

My mom discovered this a few years ago, and EVERYONE got one for Christmas. It's actually fun to do. She even managed to find University of Michigan print fleece for my boyfriend. It still looks and feels great after a lot of use.

My mom also discovered these a few years ago, and same thing, she makes them for everyone. I actually have 2, one that turned into a dog blanket and the second one special to cover me entirely, since i'm tall and most blankets don't do that.

If you want to do it you can usually pick the the fleece on good sales and make em cheap.

Like the apple trivet/basket "discovery" of a week or two ago (http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/look/look-transforming-apple-trivet-and-basket-049904), this post is more proof that your contributors have never been to a church or senior center craft fair. Lucky them.

Seems like every girl I knew at college had one of these... It might be cute for your kids, but I'm not a fan of something so cheesy/tacky.
