For the most part we are crafty enough to make our own memo board with some spray paint or found fabric. But lately we can't imagine finding the time to make anything. Or you can go to Big Lots and buy one for under $10 and recover it with your own fabric (found or not). Real Simple isn't my idea of a source for thrifty, clever solutions--it's just shopping tips.

Kudos to all who DIY w/the memo boards.
I just ordered 2 from Pulp. I like the patterns offered, I don't have the time for DIY and purchasing from a company that carries good products and provides employment is important to me.
BTW the September issue of Real Simple has a great A-Z guide on recycling as well as some terrific book suggestions submitted by readers. In fact, I've added a few titles to my que at the library which is (drum roll please) FREE!

Hey- I actually bought one of the Pulp Memo boards and just got it this week...it's beautiful and the quality is a heck of a lot better than buying someone's cheezy cast offs from Big Lots! The fabric I chose is sturdy and gorgeous.
$39? You call that expensive? It's a steal. I've seen similar things that aren't half as well made & designed for a lot more money. And not for anything, but the free wooden pushpins were a nice detail.
So, you go girl!
