Macys has launched a new exclusive collection called the "Rwanda Path to Peace" collection. According to the site, it's "a collection of exquisite, one-of-a-kind works of art hand-woven by the women of Rwanda. Focused on trade, not aid, the sale of these baskets puts real, sustainable income into the hands of the weavers, changing their lives in remarkable ways."
Looking at the collection, we love the quirky shape and simple graphic motifs that balance the line between native traditions and a modern aesthetic. We're especially drawn to this Rwanda "Friendship" Cathedral Basket ($45). The bold fire red color would add a jolt of pop color to your space. Check out the other pieces of the collection here.

I've been to Rwanda twice since 2005. I got those baskets in a small format as christmas tree ornaments. They're really pretty. The Rwandan women make really nice crafts. Let's hope the sales profits go to them!
