We spotted it while cruisin' down the aisles at Target last night. It's part of Victoria Hagan's "Perfect pieces" collection and is porcelain with a stained ebony base. It's only $9.99 and is about 5" high by 7" wide. Definitely a "perfect piece" on a coffee table or console, or even a bookcase. Available in-store and online as well.
This is my last visit to AT. Too much of the content seems advertorial.

This reminds me of the bird salt and pepper set you can also get from target.

I agree, kbpelham - isn't part of the point of AT streamlining, and not buying disposable crap?

i saw this the other night too! I loved how simple and elegant it was. Might have to go back now...

kbpelham and kittyj-
I assumed that was why the user comments on this site have declined significantly in recent months. It seems like every other post is about a new product we just have to buy, and that's so contradictory to the original spirit of this site. Ugh.

Meh. And the porcelain candle holders from that range are so much nicer too.

I love the Victoria Hagan stuff for Target. MANY people come here to find finishing touches, and not to jettison all that is material.
This item is sweet, affordable, avoids the typical sterility of modern that many here complain about, and, above all, is a symbol of peace of which we can not be reminded of enough.

Leslie--
I see NOTHING in this post about "have to buy".
This site is a collection of things and solutions and ideas and decor and trend. What exactly do you think this is the contradiction to?

At least AT is attempting to showcase items that are within the realm of affordability. If anything, I am more irritated by sites that only highlight the newest and most expensive and impossible-to-source. AT is a combination presents that too, but at least balances it with cheap things, DIY things and provides the occasional curveball for inspiration. If you are so anti-material objects, then what the heck are you doing here in the first place? You should be sitting on the floor of your empty room reading a book.

Hi Leslie, kittyj, kbpelham: we try very, very hard to balance showcasing products and design we admire, want, own and use. We come from the perspective that posting or seeing something doesn't mean we ourselves necessarily need to purchase it, nor do we think you should. We sometimes post things that are well beyond our means, but are aspirational/inspirational, and we also point out budget minded purchases from mass retailers, alongside independent retailers (whom we personally prefer). But often we just post items we think might interest our readers.
The team here at ATLA has always made a concerted effort to post as many non-product posts as possible, and perhaps the increase in products is directly proportional to the popularity of gift ideas these past few holiday months (everyone seemed very excited about our product giveaways, and we hope to give more to our readers in the future). There does seem to be a very sizable amount of readers who enjoy the eyecandy of products also, so I hope you can accept product posts in the same way I look through a Dean & Deluca catalog: with an envious eye, but a closed wallet.
We are making a concerted effort to provide more how-to's like our January Jumpstart posts, home tours (some good ones in the works), store reviews and other local resources that aren't directly product related. Making everyone happy while growing the site is a precarious balance at best, and we're cognizant that for our long time readers, the changes could be jarring. We hope we don't lose important readers like yourselves in the process. So we ask you to be patient, but also involved...our best content and leads comes from the AT community!
