DIY: Candle Holder

082708candle-04.jpgWe enjoyed a wonderful backyard barbecue this past weekend and spotted similar DIY candle holders to these pictured. Made out of empty coffee cans and a bottle of spray paint it's one of the easiest DIY projects we've taken on recently. Find out how after the jump.

082708candle-02.jpgTools you'll need

  • Empty coffee cans (aquired from local restaurants)
  • Can opener
  • Spray paint
  • Tea light candles

082708candle-03.jpgMost coffee can labels peel right off. Once your can has been peeled and washed it's ready for a few hole punches. We liked the simple design of three or four holes but feel free to create your own design. Once your design is set it's time to spray paint. For a more even coat, spray 2 to 3 light coats and let dry between each painting session.

This classic project can be made even more decorative if you fill the can with water, freeze it and then use a hammer and nail to tap a dotted pattern into the sides of the coffee can. Then spray paint the can afterwards.

cute, it may even be cut to leave the can with their original finishes and string them and hang from trees.
fun!!!!

Dorislovesart, that's exactly what I'm hoping to do whenever the landlord actually finishes the porch (hey, it's only been since April, right?). In the interim, I'm brainstorming awesome but not distracting patterns to do...

One Halloween (when I had way too much free time) I took a bunch of coffee cans, used the frozen water & hole punch idea to make jack o'lantern faces and spray painted them orange. I have a long, wide driveway so I used them to line the drive. Never found them smashed in the street!
