We spotted this fun DIY idea in the "Reader Letters" page of the April 2008 Country Home magazine. A reader wrote in to say they were inspired by a previous article and converted a birdcage to become a desk organizer!

Although it borders on being a slightly a bit too "country" for our tastes, we really love the concept and could see painting it a fun pop color for an unexpected twist on a desk. The reader wrote "... I used scrap wood painted white for my shelves instead of glass" (which apparently was used in the inspiration example.) We found a really expensive version for sale here., but think this would be a much more affordable weekend DIY. Has anyone done this in their home?
Update: We found the person, Margo, who wrote the letter and turns out she's a blogger too! She's got some great ideas re-using old items on her blog. She explains how she made the birdcage organizer here.
Wow,
You guys have been looking at Too many magazines.

I'm so glad you found my site. This was a fun project, and yep it's a bit country. You could use fun funky colors to jazz it up a bit. Thanks for the links.
