Look! Learn To Make Fancy Bouquets

010709_flowers.jpgWhen we think about a brand new year we try to pinpoint a couple of things we'd like to try and/or learn. They don't have to be big or important, more often they're fun things that can be done in an afternoon (if we remember to put the time aside) this way we're assured to be tending to the smaller joys and not just the 'big stuff' during the year. This year at the top of our list is learning slightly more formal flower arranging. Inspired by Eddie Ross's incredible arrangements and some talented local florists, we're ready to jump in and try something new.

We normally just break up a Trader Joe's bouquet into simple arrangements (we like to think they're chic) that are in line with what AT Chicago posted about yesterday. So lately we've been yearning to try something a bit more complicated and, dare we say it, fancy.

atla072908floral01.jpgThankfully Gregory posted a step by step how-to from designer Michelle Workman that's a great jumping off point for the basics involved. For a little bit more, we're watching Eddie Ross's guide to professional flower arranging.

Since we have plenty of containers/vessels/vases and a floral frog to get started with we're really only going to need to invest in some floral foam to keep stems in place and then take a trip to the LA Flower Mart and start practicing.

If we really can't get the hang of it we might try a one day workshop at a place like Flower Duet.

Do you have any fun goals to learn something new? Have any tips for a beginning arranger?
