More Tile Love: Make a Tile Table

072408_tile.jpgIf you don't have the cash to put together a floor like this out of encaustic tiles, you can still get in on the hot tile action by buying 4-6 tiles and making them into a tabletop:

This one is from Mesabonita who has a business of using salvaged tile to create new tabletops for living rooms and entry ways. Check out her blog for more examples of her work and to get inspired.

We were thinking of finding an old table at a thrift store and having someone add Granada tiles to the top. Does anyone know how to make their own table and do the whole project themselves? Does anyone have the confidence to try this out and show us the results? Does anyone want to drool over tile with us all day?

I've just purchased a table from mesabonita-- and am patiently waiting for it to ship (it takes a little time to make the metal frame and oxidize it just so). Benedicte could not be a cooler or nicer person, and I love patronizing artists directly. HIGHLY recommended.

Hello everybody!

Oh boy does it feel good to read such an enthusiastic post like the one from you dear loftlover. Thanks a lot!

And yes indeed it was a very nice surprise to see the original article and photo in a heartfelt endeavor like AT.

I am the person who makes these tables in Barcelona from very old, beautiful and sadly discarded encaustic tiles (called baldosas in Spanish and rajolas in Catalan). I would be happy to help anyone who is interested in the history of these quickly disappearing modernista gems.
