Do You Sleep With The Lights On?

12609-lights.jpgAlthough we don't keep a foghorn under the bed like Laure does (or anything else for that matter), we confess we have another kind of psychic protection against the things that go bump in the night...

Not me. I need absolute darkness to sleep.

If we're both home (the normal), the lights are off - it just disturbs our sleep -- the doors are locked and we keep the bat in the bedroom. If I'm for any reason home alone at night, I leave a lamp on in the living room and the bedroom door only half shut. I figure with a light, it looks like someone is still up - occasionally I've left the TV on too in that situation.

Yes, but then the intruder can find YOU easier!

I need total darkness. I have even taped over the various lights from electronics in my room. If I charge my cell phone at night, I either slip it into a drawer or flip it right-side-down so the glow doesn't bother me, either.

He might be able to find me easier - but he's also going to find that I played softball in high school and my swing with my bat would probably be enough to knock him out if not kill him.

I need light in my room to sleep because it's so darn freaky in there. I really need to decorate and get the clutter out so i can sleep peacefully...

up until august I needed it completely dark to sleep but, regardless of how crazy this makes me sound, i swear i woke up and there was a ghost in my room. Its a really long story but now i have to have some light on.

There are studies linking sleeping with the lights on to health issues. The idea is that your body needs darkness to fully register "sleep time" and repair itself.

I can do either, but I like having a little bit of some kind of light. I've found that a lava lamp is perfect. Mine casts a soft pink glow that I find very relaxing.

If I'm spooked about something, a nightmare, a weird noise or just a "something's not right" feeling, I will sleep with a lamp on in the bedroom. Otherwise, I turn them all out.

Dark - inky black darkness. That's the stuff. If I can see my hand before my face, it's too bright, and I put something over my eyes.

I like a good deal of darkness- I always heard that light disturbs your sleep cycles whether you notice it or not. Then again, if you don't notice, it can't be that much of an issue. Anyway- I have locked doors and windows, and I keep a knife within reach of my bed ever since there was a serial rapist issue a few months back. It just makes me *feel* safer knowing that if someone does break in, I have something more to threaten him with than a pillow.

I sleep with my little strand of orange led's on. It casts a warm glow like a fire, and isn't too bright.

I don't have to - I can see quite well in the dark.

C'mon, MFlick. You can't just leave us hanging like that - a ghost in your room? Spill!

I fall asleep with a LED garland on the wall. Hubby turns it off later.

What I really love is to have the blinds open with the full moon shining in but my window isnt in a good place for that now. Lately I have wanted a light on for some reason, but the lava lamp light is a great idea. sounds relaxing and not too bright.
where can you get a fog horn for a reasonable price?

I have a plug in night light in the hallway which shines just a glimmer of light under the bedroom door to stop it being pitch black.

I sleep better in darkness. I may occasionally fall asleep with full lights on - but that's only when I am really tired, when reading on recliner etc.
When I have troubles with falling asleep, sometimes even small things annoy me. But generally I can have moon light in, and that's fine.

Used to sleep in the dark until I got tired of running into the wall on my way to the bathroom. There is now a green LED nightlight in the corner by the door to the bathroom. It also helps me see the lightswitch for the bathroom lights. I figure the nightlight is cheaper than plastic surgery on my nose.

Nope - can't sleep with lights on. I've accepted that, inevitably, some light will come in through the blinds (they're venetian, and there's a little gap right up the top where the light comes in - unfortunately, I have a loft bed, which puts that gap right at eye level), especially since I usually leave them a little open so I can get some ventilation going in summer. But if there's, say, a light on outside my room coming in around the gaps of the door, or even if it's a full moon? Then it gets hard to sleep!

nightlight in the closet off the bathroom. It provides enough light to get me to the bathroom, but doesn't light up the bedroom much.

Sadly today I just hung a curtain in our bedroom (even though there are already blinds) since the people in the house behind our apartment tend to keep their flood lights on full time. I can stand a little light but it was getting to feel like daytime even when the lights were out.

Hi I have a buddy who is totally against lights in anyform - and since even the best hotels have blackout curtains there should be no probmes right? - WRONG - he found he didnt like the led light clocks - the under the door lights - the cracks between the curtains which poured in parking lot lights drove him crazy - so he came up with his own low tech solution called blackoutcurtains to go - check it out!
