6 Tips For A Cinco De Mayo Celebration At Home

050509_cinco01.jpgCelebrating Cinco De Mayo calls for friends and family so invite your friends over for a little party. After the jump, check out a few tips to enjoy a fun and fabulous Cinco De Mayo party at home.

1) Have a budget-friendly pot luck celebration! Invite your friends to bring a yummy dish to share with everyone. And don't forget to find a great recipe for margaritas.

2) Consider creating a festive vibe with colorful decor by way of table cloths, napkins and candle light. By coordinating your tables to say, the colors of the Mexican flag, you instantly have a theme.

3) Add small touches to your party by making the space look more complete. Consider pre-rolling silverware into napkins and tying raffia or ribbon in one of your theme colors.

4) Don't forget a pinata! Before hanging your piñata, place it in the center of your table and instantly your table has Mexican flair! Decorate the area around it with potted flowers. Once the celebration is over, you can plant your flower centerpiece in your garden.

5) A simple lighting design will create a fun yet intimate vibe. Try stringing lights or hanging paper lanterns in addition to white lights, especially on porches and decks.

6) You can’t have a fiesta without some entertainment! Think about either downloading traditional Mexican music to set a fabulous and fun mood!

A Cerveza Party?? I'm a mexican -living in Mexico-, and down here it's a national holyday. It's about dignity and victory over an attempt from another european country to re-colonize Mexico.
So for some people it could be a reason to have some beer, but for most mexicans it's a big deal.

Ha...probably won't ever do one of these parties unless I want to do a birthday party with this theme since May 5th happens to be my bday.

String lights...gotta have 'em!

I was laughing at the image of the knocked over margarita glass. I'm assuming if one parties at home on CdM they might as well go for it...pinata, string lights, the works. And yes...go ahead and eat the worm in the bottle. LOL. Can't say I ever do anything to celebrate the fifth myself, but it seems like as good an opportunity as any to have friends over for a great meal.

And like ChrisGal, my good girlfriend has her birthday on CdM as well. I suppose it's better than Valentine's Day or Christmas...wouldn't want to have to "share" those holidays. :)
