Fall Colors 2006: Honorable Mention #1

(This is the first of our 6 honorable mentions, which go to submissions that did not make the finals but really rock. They are awarded purely at the judge's discretion. Each honorable mention receives a special gift from CB2.)

11-6-jonathan.jpgFrom Jonathan Lo:

"This was a very tough decision, but my vote for honorable mention would have to be #3 Deana & Nadim's Daring Duplex (southwest entries). That lime green is a bold statement for any wall, but they were able to balance it with all the textures and elements that are in the rest of the room...

I love the fact that they placed an equally bold (but not necessarily matchy) painting on the wall that then gave a great starting point for all the other elements in the room to visually pull from. However, the thing that really stands out for me in this room are the bright turquoise accents. They could have stopped at just the "yellow and green" color scheme and called it a day, but adding in the turquoise "pops" brought an unexpected element that really works. I like how they carried it through in a subtle way via the texture in the lamps and the light blue pillow. For me, it was an excellent example of a "skillful" use of color."

Deana and Nadim: This was my personal favourite amongst the West coast entries. Sophisticated, colourful, and capturing a bit of the Hollywood glamour of yesteryear, you two have a home that really embodies a modern classic. Congratulations!

Ditto - I loved this entry the first time I saw it and still do. Great use of color and gorgeous decor choices to boot - congrats!

I am so pleased this entry is being recognized because it was in my top ten favorites! I love this couple's aesthetic.

I loved this entry--as did many others. I appreciate why it is an honourable mention--it deserved at least that--but, why is it *only* an honourable mention? I'm not being picky--I'm just curious where it falls short. I'd appreciate it if the judges would include a comment about that too--just so we can all learn something. Thanks.

I think this was my favorite in the whole contest! I'm so disappointed that you didn't make it to the finals, but congratulations on your honorable mention!

Hard to believe it didn't even make it to the finals.

Can we have a house tour anyway? Please?

I adore this room for all the reasons Jonathan stated above and will keep checking Deana's website for more inspiration.

I don't know how you guys didn't win. I think this is beautiful and the colors are brilliant. What could top this??? I thought for sure you were the best!

I agree with Alana. I love all the points that Jonation made to show us how this entry made it to the honorable mention category. Constructive criticism to illustrate what kept this entry from making it to finalist would be very helpful as well. Thanks!

To chime in, this was one of my very favorites, and I wish that it had made the finals. Congratulations on the recognition!

In response to the questions above....aren't the finalists chosen through reader votes? Isn't that why we all voted? That might explain why this didn't make the finals (though it should have!).

Deana - Love your website and the fact that you're a Smiths fan. :) Me too. Still love the Mozzer.
