Geninne's favorite OTHER entry:
#18 John's Harmonious Hues because his space is happy, bold, warm, playful and original. I could definitely see myself living there :o)
What do you want to do next in your home, if anything, to improve it?:
There's a room that we haven't finished yet we want to make into a guest suite. It has a gorgeous view of the Xinantecatl volcano.

So lovely. I'd move into the spare bedroom in a minute, even if it's not fixed up yet.
Very sophisticated & lovely home. When I grow up, I want a space like that.
This house is stunning *and* many of the furniture pieces were designed by Geninne's husband (read about this when there was a tour of this home on Decor8.) I love the subtle and cozy earth tones used throughout the home and the way the house feels at one with the beautiful surroundings. Good luck Geninne!
Designed by her husband? That is just wonderful to hear. I hope my future home has such personal touches, too.
Stunning. I love this. So beautiful and personal.
I thought that this was a nice entry, but I couldn't understand why it had so many votes, especially when the second photo didn't really offer anything other than a collection of bulletin board artwork. Even after viewing the video I found this room to be sophisticated and organic, but falls short of an ingenious use of color.
Amanda said it best.....
I was surprised to see this entry made it from the first round. In the original entry the first photo was lovely and well composed - the second...eh. Going back I noticed that Geninne had posted many links to other photos of her house. To me that isnt fudging the rules a little.. thats just plain breaking them.
Its a shame since this is a really lovely house.
your home is beautiful. What is the music on the slide show?
beautiful home don't get me wrong but why is this a finalist? i don't think AT should bother even making this a color contest because it's really not. that video was more like a commercial for a bed and breakfast, not really a showcase of color used in the home. i found everything to be very neutral and pretty plain.
Nice place, but I'm left feeling very underwhelmed.
It's so basic...
This is by far the best entry in the entire contest! Extraordinary...anyone who says less is bitter because they are jealous and haters.
This is a really wonderful home, however, I agree with other posters. It does NOT Quailfy as a "COLOR" contest finalist.
I'm a bit disappointed in AT at this point. ~sigh~
Penny
When did earth tones become "not colorful enough"?...it doesn't have to be bright or bold to qualify as a "color" contest finalist.
Are aqua, red, orange, and hot pink the only colors that qualify?
I think this entry is amazing.
I just noticed another Amanda had posted before I did :oP I'm Amanda T.
Bugger yourself BPeasefull....
Hmmmm. I too am underwhelmed. I don't get it. I know very well that neutrals can be "bold" as has been exampled elsewhere in this contest. This is a lovely home, but it does not fit in a COLOR contest.
AT is really not consistent this year with its picks. Kinda sad.
This home merits a semi-finalist title. Don't let the whiney people convince you otherwise.
After reading many of the negative posts on the other contestant's pages, I'm realizing there are only a few bad eggs out there. Unfortunately, they continue to blog on the semi-finalist's entry pages under different names.
Obviously there is someone out there who is very sad they didn't win this contest. I'm sorry for them and hope they stop blogging and ruining everyone else's experience. This is a fun contest and could be a more constructive dialog.
Amanda-
this is word for word the contest criteria:
Readers and judges will evaluate each submission to find the boldest, coolest, most colorful room along with all the tips and resources we need to get color ourselves.
boldest. coolest. most colorful. just sayin'.
I tried to comment before but can't find my comment.
What is the most wonderful about your entry (and yes, your use of color) are the spaces you've created for your children. So unfussy but so harmonious and beautiful. And yes--admirable use of color. I think best part of reading the entries is to move past the picture into imagining oneself in the three dimensional space. When I think about your house, I can feel the organic and natural way it reflects Mexico and the surrounding natural beauty. The peace there truly comes through and I think a large part of that is through your use not only of paint but of objects and wood and natural materials in a subtle and calm way.
And why does the exterior of the house not count as bold? Especially as it penetrates the interior in the walls she shows us?
I am glad for the entries that take me outside my own color framework-which is far more Gino and Stephanie's Uraguayan Sunrise (how did this not make the finals!)--and that get me to think about subtle touches I never would have come up with myself. So thanks Gennine.
Cheers to who said the video plays like an advert for a bed & breakfast.
I said it once and I'll say it again:
Another room I don't get as an "insta-finalist." The first picture is really nice, if not a little dull, but photographed very well. The second picture gives me a headache. It looks like the children ran out of room on the fridge for their artwork.
Either I'm missing something serious or it's nice to have 300 of your closest friends vote for you.
ugly ugly ugly small people
so beautiful! modern yet warm feeling - which is such a hard balance to achieve. and oh my goodness the light you get! it's just gorgeous.
Truly beautiful home.
