2 Good color tips:
1. (As in our kitchen) you can get shades of the same colour mixing white. Don't be afraid, use measuring cups and you'll be able to reproduce it as many times as you need. That can save you a few bucks.
2. White is a great colour. Just use it where your'e not used to see it.
2 good color resources:
1. Google this: "color theory".

Very nice! I love the orange stripes
Love the floor in the second picture! Is that tile or paint?
I LOVES IT!!! Que Cute!!
Insta For sure!
Awesome paint job. I don't even particularly like orange, but this is fantastic.
OMG, this is so HAPPY. I really like the white against the orange. Orange Ju-lup anyone? I would just smile every morning making toast for breakfast...unless I was hungover. Then I might avoid the brightness...Otherwise, GREAT! In-Contention....
So cute!!

"Creme tangerine and montelimat
A ginger sling with a pineapple heart
A coffee dessert--yes you know its good news
But you'll have to have them all pulled out
After the Savoy truffle!"
So much fun ... love it! Congrats on not being too afraid of undergoing such a paint job on a rental ;-)
Hola, esto es increible! El color tiene tanta dimension y me agrada mucho verlo usado sin miedo. Me imagino que es ideal para tomar un cafecito en las mananas.
I normally dislike rooms in just two stark colors (white and orage) but this is so lovely. I am voting instafinalist, and it's awesome to see entries from around the world.
o cool, you own the oggi catalina thermos. I had to replace the lid three times and oggie was fine about sending it to me. What do you clean it with?
Love the Icon pendant by Kartell. We have this over our dining table in blue!
Is it just me, or do many entries not represent fall at all. While orange can be a great fall color, this room screams Summer to me. It actual screams Creamsicle, but that's not really a season ;)
This contest has nothing specifically to do with Fall other than it taking place in the Fall.
I'm not crazy about this one because it is so monocromatic with not very much variation in the values. Also for me it screams fast food restaurant.
Hey, did you paint those stripes yourself? cool.
I love this one. I am a (new) great fan of orange. I've tried to paint stripes but even with taping off never was happy with the result. I love how you've used, I think, about three shades of orange and varied the size of your stripes rather than doing stipes in a predictable fashion.
I disagree with the comment that it looks like fast food. It looks like graphic design to me. Love the fridge, the silver really works for me with the orange. I also love the white shelves and the white objects on the shelves. Functional objects that are also beautiful really intrigue me.
Lastly, I must have that light. Please send it to me right away! :-)
Great job.
WOW - now that is what I call being brave with color. Absolutely amazing.
This is totally a dream...I love it. I have many orange accents in my kitchen, so this would be fantastic. But, I think I'm too lazy to do the stripes!
i was just thinking how nice it would be to re-do my kitchen with a citrus theme... nicely done!
sublime!
So happy to see South America represent!
Sensationally gorgeous. Delicious. THIS is a case where something reminds one of candy in a WONDERFUL way. It makes me want some Beechnut Fruit Stripe gum or a butterscotch candy or an orange soda or an actual orange.
Or at LEAST to walk into this kitchen and spend a few hours in there.
Even though I don't personally like the colors, I do love the stripes and I that you did that in your kitchen, it's so fun!
Hi everybody, thank you so much for your comments. You made us truly happy. This was a lot of work, but we are so very proud of it.
We'll try to answer the questions you've posted here.
- The floor isn't painted. It's some kind of fake tiles that came with the apartment.
- The thermos and the Icon lamp aren't the original ones. Regretably, those are really hard to find over here and extremely expensive to buy over the web (for us, at least). We love them anyway.
- The paint job was done by ouselves. It was very, very hard and took over three weeks of sporadic work (mostrly weekends). The house was a mess though that process. Now, for those asking about taping, we did tape, but then manually fixed the details with a small brush.
- Finally thanks for those who support entries from around the world. We are very happy to see we are not "alone".
Please keep your comments coming, we really appreciate your feedback. Oh, and thanks for your votes. We are thrilled!
This look is getting a lot of votes, so I assume my taste is quite different from that of other people's here. Anyway, if a person can live with this much color, more power to them. Not for me, though. I'd be nuts after two hours in this sort of environment.
Is this not perfect? Bravo!
Curtis, I gotta give ya props. Fruit Stripe Gum, totally Fruit Stripe Gum. (Wouldn't you like to see that Yellow (lemon) Fruit Stripe somewhere too?)
great work! this is one of the very few entries that actually shows a brave use of color. (and use it so well!) I truly do not understand how majority of the entries even get considered, as it's not a study of color at all! the contest is about color, isn't it? with that said, this is a refreshing contrast. nicely done.
Love this room - I must have those bar stools- where did you buy them from ? Insta-finalist for sure!
mmmm, the efficiency and sunburst pallette of this set-up would make waking up for the 9-to-5 grind something to look forward to!!
How wonderful!
This is quite simply fresh, happy, playful, young, and optimistic. What else can I say? I keep returning to it. There is so much life here. I congradulate you. I wish AT would do more with real apartments from around the world. So much of what I see of American urbanism all over AT is frankly flat-out pretentious, jaded, boring and obscenely over priced. Most of the truly earth friendly, people friendly and affordable design innovation seems to come from abroad.
It says take me away to somewhere tropical and beautiful I love it! You should be a finalists. Melanie- Vancouver B.C.
This room makes me want to have a glass of orange juice! POWERFULLY colorful! happy space....:):):)
Who needs coffee with a color like this - it's refreshing and bold! Definite wake me up in the morining! Love it!
Very Nice....Juicy....Almost mouth watering. Perfect color for the kitchen and so happy. Well done.
