Why I use color: I use color because it gives me the opportunity to personalize my space according to my style and interests. My bungalow was built in the 20's so I wanted my bathroom to have an Art Deco vibe. I chose a color for this space that would complement the black and white of the tile while still allowing the room to feel fresh and lively. My bungalow does not have a lot of built-ins, so the niches I had built were a practical yet decorative way to add storage in a relatively small space. I painted the molding and the niches white to give them some "pop" against the wall color.
2 Good color tips:
1. Colors that relate to your hobbies and interests are a good starting point for a color palette for your home. For instance, I love the outdoors - especially in the Fall - so I was immediately drawn to earthy colors - e.g. shades or brown, green and terra cotta when I painted the interior of my home.
2. Look to your wardrobe for color options. I believe that the colors you like to wear can have a place on your wall or as accessories used as accents throughout the home. The techniques you apply to coordinate an outfit are also at work when styling your home.
2 Good color resources:
1. I like the show Get Color! on HGTV. It further highlights how everyday inspiration can translate into a beautiful space that reflects an individual's personality and interests.
2. Benjamin Moore's Personal Color Viewer. Allows you to paint sample photos or your own digital photos to get an initial idea of how a color can look in your space.
I think you have a pretty bathroom. Like the tiles, tub, fixtures, etc. And I think you chose a fine color for paint. But as far as the contest is concerned, I think it lacks the pizzaz of a lot of the other entries. (On the upside, it isn't gawdy like a lot of the other entries, either! Ha!!) Enjoy your space, Narida!!
The two perfect bathroom colors have shown up on Apartment Therapy today: this pale minty green and coral pink. Nice fixtures.
I don't understand why more people don't consider this to at least be in contention! No, it's not as bright or bold as other entries, but it is such a great use of color for this space (and that is the point of the contest, no?). Sometimes it only takes a splash of color to completely change the mood of a room--and when i imagine what this bathroom would look like if the walls had been left white, I see a winner!
I definitely think this is in contention. The color is gorgeous and feels retro and contemporary at the same time. Crisp, clean and restful.
I put in contention, because it looks like my bathroom! I too have the black and white subway tile, and I just painted it a greyish blue (Yolo Colorhouse Water #5). It was my most recent project and it came out beautifully.
Excellent choices Lady. You've got style!
It looks lovely. Is choosing a water-toned wall color and finding matching towels a *creative* use of color? I dunno. The color choice is authentic to the era of the house, so it wasn't a no-brainer.
Thanks everyone for your comments and consideration.
My favorite color! I call it aqua, and I like it with the b&w classic bathroom. Nice choice.
Maybe add coral or red towels instead of matching the aqua?
2nd thoughts -- Or use zebra towels/shower curtain? It would be less calm but have more zing.
nice color and tasteful bathroom, but not a lot going on there
looks like a hospital“s bathroom
You have definitely stayed true to the Art Deco period, and the integrity is great. I have seen a lot worse. What I might do, is add some accesories. i.e. some great art deco sconces in chrome, Rejuve hardware has some incredible ones, I would also add a border along the ceiling, Bradbury and Bradbury have some, or else you could stencil it yourself, and Stencil world has many different types of Deco borders. Add a little pop with flowers in vases, maybe black. There is a house in Philadelphia that is also done in aqua and black, very strking. Take a few risks, and you will have a very Art Deco statwment. Try a chromed nude figurine with a ball, or several grouped together. Have a good time.
