Name: Richele and the Johnson/Tracy family
Location: Long Beach, CA
Why I use color:
"This is a friend’s baby’s room that I painted for her. She was using the blue brown combination and we decided to borrow from Ms. Adams since she wanted something clean and modern.
I have to admit that I’m an apartment dweller with a finicky landlord so I can’t indulge, but my girlfriend, her husband and her new son allowed me the chance to live large through them.
Color can be so emotional it can transform your feelings as soon as you enter a room. I think it’s a powerful design element. I only wish I could live a bit more of it myself. Since my friend was technically the “client” I just helped her implement the idea. (Sorry about that last blurry photo!)"

Color Tips:
1. Always test a patch of color on the wall [preferably more than one] and let it cure for 24 hrs before deciding.
2. I prefer to hand paint instead of taping. I use small art brushes to get detail.
3. If you understand the underlying pigments in paint it helps in choosing paint colors. I’m blessed to have taken an insanely difficult color theory course. You can get a feeling for it with water colors too. Just play with paint and see what happens.
Color Resources:
1. I love my old Pantone books. All those color chips...so little wall space to accommodate.
2. I get great inspiration from catalogs. You can’t help but live vicariously through those designers.

Oh! I'm totally in love with the changing table. That would so fabulous for the craft projects now taking up my entire dining table and buffet.
I like the way this makes a statement with color without being overwhelming. I *adore* the way that this is not so "kid" specific... it makes me crazy all those design shows on tv that make princess beds and fighter jet rooms for little kids. What happens when they grow out of that phase and into something else? I love how this room can really grow into a room for an older child. Lovely!
Very pleasing.
Very nice.
Love the color combo! That can be anybody's room, it looks so happy and compfy!
What a crisp, modern nursery. I love the changing table and how it works as a counterpoint to the modernity of the Angela Adams graphics and the fantastic geometrics used in the crib. It adds a nice element of warmth to the room. I think it would be fun to add another graphic element
(bold cabana-stripe, maybe?) to the changing pad to give the piece more punch. Your baby should grow into one stylish little girl with surroundings like this.
Very nice baby's room. Can be used for a long time.
Very soothing
Love it! So much better than the theme baby rooms we are all use to seeing.
Michelle
Very soothing - the semi-circular squares soften the edges of a modern touch, along with the muted blue. The spoon-fed colors "they" give out for babies' rooms can oftentimes reach out and attack you - this room does just the opposite - Richele's techinique is very inviting, and I think that's entirely important for caretaker and child. Nicely done.
Nice room with definate adult appeal. What about functionality of color? Babies are near color blind (if not completely) and perceive primary colors first. Might want to consider the baby's best point of view...literally.
Could whoever did this room please e-mail me at mlfreed@mac.com. This is exactly what I am looking for and I'd like to know where you got the bedding from. Thanks so much!!!!! Michelle
Love this. What color paint did you use?
I too would love to hear about where you got the bedding, and whether you did the painting freehand, etc. Please post more!
I third the above comments! I would love to know if the painting was freehand (how did you do that) as well as where the materials came from. Please email me at honeybee52000 at yahoo. com THANKS!
