Look! No hands! We've mentioned hands-free electronic faucets before. Last year, the Solis Solar Powered faucet was featured on HGTV, and now we have a new one. Moen has now introduced the "Destiny" electronic faucet, as part of their Showhouse collection. It works pretty much like the kind you see in public restrooms, using a sensor to detect motion to stop and start the flow of water. Since water conservation is an important issue in these parts, these "hands free" faucets could be quite hand-y.
My experience with motion-sensor faucets is that while in theory they sound efficient with regards to water conservation, they in reality are not. Quite frequently, the motion sensors go a little wacky and the faucets tend to turn on and off on their own all day long, resulting in much more wasted water than regular faucets. Not to mention the factor of lighting, which can sometimes lead to questionable effectiveness as well.
It sure is a pretty faucet though! Very minimal and streamlined. Too bad I don't trust it!

I hate hate hate faucets like that. I can't count how many times I've stood in a bathroom trying to wash my hands, and can't, because the sensor refuses to believe I am there.
And they often run longer than you need them to anyway, which is a waste of water when you could just turn a normal faucet off.

Akino - I, too, am invisible to those. I remember trying every sink at one of the restrooms at O'Hare airport...nothing. I had to ask someone else to stand there while I washed my hands so the water would run!

Though I understand the frustration with the sensors, this will change in time (I mean it has too right?). Imagine, never having to touch a faucet again - ahhh pure hygiene bliss!
