Faux Flora

012407faux.jpgHow faux would you go? At a recent trip to Target, we noticed that there was a sudden abundance of fake flower arrangements. There was even an endcap for of mix and match florals all packaged with a selection of (quite beautiful) simple glass vases underneath. The endcap was apparently part of the Victoria Hagan collection. Fake flowers have always had a bad rap, but we were surprised to see several of the offerings actually looked quite realistic. So, we thought we'd ask you guys- do you or would you go faux in your home? (tell us your thoughts in the comments)

Every time I'm at Target, my hand hovers over the fake flowers. But they're SO expensive!! Yeah, yeah, they last forever, but $30?? If I'm spending the money, they're going to smell good, darn it. And be able to wilt.

Hey I voted OTHER,
so this is my please explain.
I dont like them generally in my house. But I wear them in my hair. I do have 1 single fake flower in my house though and you tell me where to get real blue roses and i'll get rid of it.

I have a coworker who decorates her office with half real-half fake plants. I have to admit that I couldn't tell when I first walked in and even now that I know, they are still convincing (she owned up when I complimented her on her amazing greenthumb--hard to pull off, even in a sunlit office). She said her trick is to only buy good quality fakes and then make a point of not placing them where someone is likely to have time to inspect the foliage (like next to a chair or on her desk). Her real plants and flowers play the frontman and the fakes fill the background. The effect is a nice, lush office.

I voted other because the pesticides and other issues around the cut flower industry are a real turn-off.

ugh no way would i ever do fakes. sorry to those who do. it just reminds me of my mom & grandma. these things would end up in some room covered in dust. it drove me nuts as a kid.

now, i've never once bought fresh cut flowers for my home. i may if i have a dinner party. which i'm planning after the cure, but... if i did it be the locally grown sort.

honestly, i favor real plants that have roots & grow. i love having something living & growing around me. i also love the large sticks you can buy & put in a vase or in a corner. i just think it feels more natural.

**i know 2 girls who had fakes in their bridal bouqets!! i felt horrible for them. i guess they liked it b/c they were very diy, but i just don't get it.

I wouldn't do fake, but do love dried flowers, which serve the same purpose. The greenmarket by my house has a great selection.

I voted other. I do not really like artificial flowers but I am not averse to using dried flowers in certain areas. Near a keyboard or a tv could be a trouble spot for fresh flowers.

I voted other - I love having lots of real green growing plants, fresh cut flowers once in a while, and (the reason I voted other) I hate fake flowers/plants that look real - however, I love fake flowers that are meant to look fake in an artistic sort of way, like flowers made out of paper, straw, yarn, etc.
