This might be a good idea - but the execution is awfully shabby. (mismatched tab-tops?)

IMHO, this room would be perfect for a floating credenza built into the niche - fitted from wall to wall. She could hide some of her tschotchkes inside and get rid of the little shelf thingy in the corner...

Buena Idea! A matching center curtain would make this just perfect.

I would love it if she asked her new visitors to guess what was behind the curtains...

It'd be even cooler if it was a new car behind the curtain.

bepsf, i will now come to your house and critique home improvement stuff you did with stitches in the index finger of your dominant hand. also, what is the point of having tchochkes if they will not be displayed?

the curtains are ikea and were just the cheapest there so i could test out the concept without committing much $$. now that it's all up, i'll likely switch them out soon.

the tv is behind the middle curtain. the curtain on the right covers the dvds, cds, and other media storage. the curtain on the left covers the drum set and guitars for rock band. these are all things i was having trouble storing or concealing in a way that made sense and looked alright.

the couch i got at deep discount at a local LA store that was going out of business. i have no idea of the brand - sorry!

I'm probably going to do the same thing to hide an ugly, nonfunctioning door in my apartment dining room. It's good to know IKEA has curtains that long - I was thinking I'd have to sew them myself to keep the project from being way too expensive.

Too bad these curtains aren't adding much color. This would be a good idea if there was something back there to hide, but it's just wasting the space. Designwise, it's without.

Do people still like tab-tops? I tried them for a while. I agree about these curtains lacking the kind of reason for being there except to accomplish an idea. What I guess I'm trying to say is, do they look better than the tv? This is a "room separation" idea that isn't new. When you need 3 panels and you only have 2, that's another bummer I can relate to... but? I understand the person was just testing them, but I don't understand why we're looking at it before it is really finished. This reminds me of people who staple sheets over the windows when they first move in a place and never get around to putting up real curtain rods and curtains.
