Rounding out DIY month on AT, we spotted this DIY cork board wall. Initially, we didn't realize it was cork (to us, it looked like a painted pattern). Not until we read the image's caption did we realize this wall was one of a kind. Supplies and more images after the jump.

We admire Retta's innovation in making this one of a kind cork board wall. We also love the fact that this DIY can be customized for your space. We think a black wall with white cork boards would look dramatic (and still have a kitchen vibe). Retta's only supplies were 4 packs of cork tiles, a Target shower curtain, a hammer and some nails--all for under $40.

clever, i just dont dig the diagonal of it all. i would have gone straight checkerboard, and not in such a "looks like 90's faux painting" pattern .

I did this in my cubicle with vintage fabric.

It does kind of look like matchjames said - 90s with the checkerboard on the point, plus it looks like sponge painting. As clever as an idea this may be, it also reminds me of ribbon boards, also emerging in the 90s fad-tastic DIY.

It's a great idea that I think would work well in a small space. It would be only too easy - and tempting - for me to pin a whole mess of stuff onto that huge wall and it would look cluttered and messy in no time.

Sorry, this doesn't work. The staggered hanging method looks 70s in a bad and overthought way. And it already looks cluttered and twee -- and there isn't even much tacked up. This would have been much better if a single large piece of cork had been covered with the fabric. You'd actually be able to discern the fabric pattern, and it would read as a single element rather than a jumble of junk.

Great concept, but I do not like the pattern or color of this for the room at all.
I'm not one for clutter, so having a whole wall devoted to little Johnny's finger paintings would make me go crazy. I think if it was condensed it would look 10x better.
