apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Flickr Find: Ramonah's Seating Cabinet

041108_sofacabinet.jpgTo be honest, this photo threw us for a loop. We weren't sure what this cabinet was for until we took a closer look and read the caption: "Instead of having a sofa, I used to have this for awhile...

"... It's a cabinet minus the doors and shelves, but still with a LARGE drawer where I used to keep all of my audio tapes and mini discs. It's very cozy to sit inside and chat, read, phone..."

While this solution may not appeal to all (especially any of you with claustrophobia), we applaud the creativity effort of reusing a big piece like this to fit a small apartment.

I thought it was some sort of upscale dog bed.

I think that would be cool for a place to sit down, take off your shoes, etc. As a sofa, I'm not too sure.

The colors of the back remind me of Mark Rothko's work.

Fun idea, but it doesn't look very comfortable. I would have LOVED this as a child, which is not a negative comment by the way.

I love this, but i think she needs to spring for a custom foam cushion for the bottom and use those pillows as back support. I think its a very clever re-use.

Clever idea! I'm a little claustrophobic, but I could definitely sit in there with the wide open space. Changing something under the sink, like any part of the faucet, THAT's another story....

I always loved this piece. I remember that Ramonah has since had to sell this, I wonder who bought it and what they did with it.
