Since we're in our planning phase for our front and back yards right now, one of the things that's on our Garden 2008 Must-Have list is a garden of herbs.

After seeing this photo on CJohsons' flickr, we're even more excited to get our herb garden going. Love these tin pails that these herbs are growing in (these are lining an alley behind a restaurant!)--anyone know where to get something similar? We've got too many terracotta pots in the back right now, must mix it up...!
I have no suggestions about where to find pails like that but I have to say that i love them and hope someone else does.

I got the exact same galvanized bucket years ago from Smith and Hawkin - not sure they still have them.

Is it ok to eat food grown in galvanized containers? Just wondering.

You need to drill holes for drainage as herbs like the dry side of the slope, so the terra cotta is actually better. A strawberry pot is perfect for the small household.

I like the idea of beautifying your alley.
But, I couldn't help it, the next thought I had was, "I sure hope someone doesn't come by and pee in them." Sorry.

Check out the Salvia line of pots at Ikea. Not as nice, but they are galvanized steel, and some have handles. The seams are waterproof, so you'd have to drill some holes.
I bought one to use as a patio ice bucket for beer :)
