We spotted this photo courtesy of Needled's Flickr: All the homes in the village of Pyrgi on the Greek island of Chios are decorated with traditional Greek patterns. Wonder what the entire neighborhood looks like...maybe it looks a bit like San Francisco's Painted Ladies? Love the mix of patterns and the history behind it. Also, those red bunches are a nice touch with the white and warm-grey tones...

Looks like scraffito (buildings in Prague too).

Very cool to find my photo on AT, which I love.
All the homes in the village of Pyrgi on Chios, Greece -- new and old -- must have the traditional exterior artwork. They are indeed "tattooed", that is, etched with traditional Greek patterns from the island (which are part of my own extensive tattoo collection) and no new buildings can be constructed without the artisanal facade.
The dried tomatoes and peppers not only add flavor but color to the village.
That said, the construction of the homes gives off an echo, so your neighbors know when you're having sex or fighting -- very much like a Manhattan apartment.
