There's something about the crazy mix of pattern and colour, the amazing wallpaper (in bathroom!) and the collection of fiestaware that we love. TV's Jessica, one of our Curees, writes:
Completed in 1972, my grandmother's house is a national treasure. Most of the original wallpaper still remains, including all the beautiful grasscloth papers. Every ceiling in the house made with cedar planks, since the supplier didn't have enough fir on hand for the whole job. There is plentiful unpainted brick and wood throughout the house. Basically, it's perfect.
We agree. More pix, and a link, after the jump...

"Fall colors" competition shoo-in?

Oh My!
There are so many things that I love about this place like the wood ceilings and beams with recessed lighting, the Orange drapes in the breakfast room and Orange countertops...
...and so many things that remind me of how bad the 70's could be like the Avocado carpet & sheer Balloon shades and wall sconces in the Bedroom - and the yellow speckled tile in the bathroom (which is just like the tile we had in our kitchen when I was a kid - Ugh!)

This home is like a museum of my childhood. Nothing should be changed, ever. And luckily, it seems like it won't be!

YIKES!!! I at first thought this was another April Fools post!! Frightening wallpaper and resultant hideous rooms. This place is in a MAJOR need of a makeover.

I agree with millipede... So bad it's good. The 70's were a riot for design. Thanks for sharing! How neat to see something preserved like that!

Love the pics! So yeah, it's kinda loud, but it wouldn't take much to tone things down a bit. The wallpaper patterns are amazing. They just don't make 'em like they used to. :-(

I think it is really kind of wonderful. Moreover, it's so sweet that this granddaughter can appreciate what's interesting about this space.
Seriously... think about the spaces that were being done around that time that you've seen, and if you really think about it, within the palette and the varous things that were in the air at the time, this is really one of the best examples, because the color scheme, etc., really hangs together and the way some of the antique stuff is incorporated into it nicely. The probably with things from that era that really don't work, is that their style was never followed through with to start with.
