Our post last week on getting an area rug on the cheap had a lot of readers wondering where to find a carpet installer that would sell them a remnant on the cheap. Linoleum City has been our go-to resource for years.

Sometimes we choose from their small but constantly changing stash of remmnants, sometimes from their warehouse of well-priced carpeting. In either case, their sales associates will happily arrange to cut down our pick and bind the result in our choice of tape colors. And, contrary to their name, they don't only stock linoleum. With their great prices, helpful staff and on-trend selection of choices, from ceramic tile to wood flooring, natural linoleum to cork, it's our first stop for any of our flooring needs.

I wish they were in NY. I'm looking for a cheap source for natural linoleum for my basement. Many stores confuse it with vinyl, which I don't want in my house!

If you see a rather handsome, grey-haired, tall gent with glasses on your trip to Linoleum City, chances are it's retired football pro David Kopay, who wrote a best-selling book about what it was like being gay in pro-football thirty years back.

hahaha that is the most random thing i've ever read...
although interesting, what's his connection with linoleum city? does he now work there?

i drive by this place everyday and think 'how can they stay afloat by just selling linoleum?' but this is great news, i was looking for a rug for the bedroom, thanks!

I've heard he owns the joint. I don't know that, but he does work there and he's very knowlegeable. I didn't figure out who he was 'til I had left the store. Totally one of those fabulously random LA things that make me love this city.

Linoleum City is the best! They also have a huge selection of cork tiles and flooring. There is another place called Lester Carpet on Beverly, just east of Fairfax that also stocks a ton of carpet and will bind it. Or bind an ordered piece, even.

Kopay owns it. According to wikipedia he went into the family biz after he was passed over for NFL and college coaching positions (possibly due to his gayness).

Linoleum City is just the best! They have a great selection (in stock!) of Armstrong composition tiles (the speckled ones...) in all the colors that are usually special order only. When redoing my kitchen floor I went in there with no idea what to do...and was totally inspired. They were VERY helpful in instructing me, the first time floor installer, on what to do. Here's a pic of our floor
