Fun Fabrics at The Common Thread!
Austin

Being lovers of fabric in all textures, colors and patterns, we were excited to hear that South Austin has a new resource for finding that perfect cloth for craft or home projects...

The Common Thread is a new fabric store that has recently opened on South Lamar Road, just one block south of Barton Springs Road. Filled with a gorgeous assortment of fabric choices, the aim of the store is to provide high-quality cloths that you can't always find in larger fabric stores, yet still keep prices affordable. We found a lot of great prints we really loved, and could see potential home or clothing projects made out of these fabrics. The Common Thread also aims to choose products that are friendly to the earth whenever possible. Along with fabric you can find unique ribbons, a rainbow of threads, common sewing tools, and a helpful, friendly owner willing to answer all your fabric questions. Just recently opened, the store will eventually feature patterns by independent designers for clothing and accessories and even carefully selected re-purposable fabric. The Common Thread is located at 701-E South Lamar Boulevard.

Fun, indeed, looking at all these colors, patterns, and notions. I spy a plasticized fabric in the next-to-last photo that I've used on my patio table.

msr, I would google quilt shop or store wherever you're looking. Chance are, they're going to have a mixture of traditional/old-lady/modern fabrics. But it will be many more designers that Joanns or Hancocks.

I look forward to checking this place out!
