Who knew barrels would be so versatile? And here we thought barrels just belonged at Disneyland in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. But no, the very fine folks at Kentucky Barrels beg to differ. From the more tame half-barrel fountains and planters for your yard to the uh, kitschy barrel breakfast nook, this site offers up all kind of ideas to use with their authentic whiskey barrels.
Authentic how? Well, these barrels do indeed age Kentucky bourbon, and you can order them in their distressed state (yay) or new state (meh). We ordered a half barrel and a full barrel for our backyard, fully intending to do some serious dahlia-planting...until the dog tipped the full barrel over under the tree, trooped in there, and declared it his new dog home.
You can check out more ideas on the joys of barrel furniture and gardening at Kentucky Whiskey Barrels.
Cool site. :0)
I use enormous half wine barrels for roses. And, yes they stink like wine for a while.

Ya, good luck actually purchasing one. I emailed them SEVERAL times about giving me a shipping quote (they recommend getting a shipping quote from them before purchasing) and I never got a responce! I was trying to buy a barrel converted into a rain barrel. I was really disappointed because they look cool. To give them the benefit of the doubt maybe there was a technical problem....

im from KY and we always use the wooden barrel lids as big, round cutting boards and trays for outdoor wine and cheese parties or BBQs.
i LOVE the way they smell! like spicy vanilla, grainy, goodness...
