Ikea System for the Garden

060608_ikea.jpgDouble Duty! We saw this kitchen system for wrangling utensils in the kitchen at Ikea earlier this week and thought they'd make perfect garden pots for a small space.

Wow, so many great uses - kitchen utensils? Kid's room? plants? pens/pencils/markers in an office?

Thanks for posting!

Yup! Ikea sort of agrees. Note the kitchen section of the ikea catalog, and you'll see them showing one of their kitchen systems being used to grow some herbs.

I have these hanging over my utility sink in the laundry/craft area of my basement. I use them to store paint brushes, tongue-depressor sticks (whatever they're called) and other art supplies, and I bought the similar rectangular one with a vented bottom to put brushes after they've been washed so they can drain and dry over the sink.

I have a quick warning about these bars...I bought two of these and two packs of the S hooks - I was going to use them to hang my bags and accessories. These bars - the shorter ones or longer ones - aren't the correct length to be secured into the studs. A standard stud is 16" and these measure at 21 3/4" and 39 1/4". You can't put any weight on them or it will pull the bars out of the walls. I think it is so funny since they are supposed to be for pots and pans but without the security of the stud it won't hold the weight. The Grundtal bars are the correct length but aren't as thin and unnoticeable.

If you use proper anchors to hold the screws it should hold up alright. I've never had one fall out of drywall or plaster and I have way too many kitchen odds and ends.
