Indoor Gardening: Kitchen Window Boxes

060908_lascav1.jpgWhen we first moved into our house, we had some very VERY grand ideas about what to put in the window box. After a friend's suggestion at orchids ("Trust me, they grow like CRAZY in these kitchen window boxes!"), we took a stab at it...and killed off a few, much to our wallet's chagrin.

So we're going to play it safe this time around and stick with a few herbs: some dill, a little oregano, and bit of rosemary. We're thinking that with the herbs growing right in our kitchen, it'll be that much easier to use in our adventures in cooking. What do you grow indoors?

Dill likes to grow tall and free, so it might be a bit iffy indoors. My indoor plants include ivies, shamrocks, orchids, succulents, foliage plants, and a citrus relative being trained like a bonsai. It's a shame to waste the growing season, so all of my herbs are on the fire escape and thriving like mad.

African violets in my sunny rooms. (They're cheap and do well with indirect light). A giant aloe plant, who like the Victorians, is happy with a quick weekly shower. The fire escape is reserved for my sweetie's bonsai trees and my gerber daisies.
