iRobot Looj 120 gutter cleaning robot

Although the recent rain storm a couple weeks ago was short, it was a good reminder for those of us that have to maintain the outside of our homes, gotta clean those rain gutters! Just in time for Christmas, iRobot, is releasing the Looj 120 Gutter Cleaning Robot. This little guy (its about 2 1/4 inches tall) was modeled using a lot of the same features that iRobot uses for their government robots that diffuse bombs, including a rugged track design and low profile.

It is remote controlled, and has these rubber propellers that lift and throw the debris out. There's a video of how it all works here. The drawbacks are that it can't turn corners, and it won't fit all rain gutters, but they do have a template you can print out to make sure it will fit your gutter. There are several models, with the cheapest one being about $99. Read about AT:Hometech's post on the Looj, as well as the iRobot ConnectR here. Order informations is here. (via AP/Yahoo news)

Wasteful product for lazy people. Cool? No. Save your 99 bones and hire someone with a ladder.

Why is it wasteful? Everyone loves to call things "wasteful" these days, I'd love to hear the justification. I'd rather blow $99 on this weird little thing than pay more than that to hire someone who's likely going to send an illegal immigrant working for crap wages and no health insurance to climb around my roof.
