That last photo is most recent and shows the progression from spring to summer and the explosion of growth in all of his plants. What is most charming about this set of pictures is seeing what a break from city life puttering about in a small garden can be. There is no pretension here, just a love of plants and gardening and making it work in the space available.

By Tokyo standards, that's a pretty wide balcony. Most of them are only about 2 feet wide or narrower (just enough to hang laundry).
It is interesting how people manage to make the small space work for their interests despite how tiny they are.

Ossan! I stumbled upon his flickr account a few weeks ago. His garden is simple but you can tell he puts a lot of attention into it. I use my own balcony as a dining space since I don't have room for one inside my place. You can barely fit two people in it but it makes a world of difference having that de-stress zone outside!
