Matching Flowers to Vases?

Martha's alliums defy logic: one very long stem to one very short, small glass vase

More often than we'd like to admit, we'll go to the farmer's market intending to buy food...and come back with more flowers than produce. By the time we get home, we're in a frenzy to find vases for the flowers and that's when we get flustered: we never seem to have the right vase (or glass) to hold them...not to mention we always undercut the stem, then after we realize that, we cut them too short.

By the time the ordeal is over, we've got too many flowers stuffed in all of our vases (and a few drinking glasses, too). Anyone have any advice on how to arrange flowers? Or any place in LA to take a workshop in flower arrangement?

you just need more vases. while i do have a few vases that are colorful, my collection of clear glass vases is pretty extensive, in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, and all purchased second-hand. i always have somethng that works with my (way too many) farm market flowers.

You can use so many other vessels for flowers besides vases...gift boxes, baskets, serving bowls, colanders, wine boxes, trinket boxes..you just need to line them properly. If you go to my website, http://www.flowersmadesimple.net
you'll find lots of FREE ideas and step-by-step flower arranging instructions. I also offer an ebook! Wish I lived in LA and could give you a workshop. I'm doing one in Gilroy next Saturday. Want to take a drive?? Good luck with your flowers and feel free to email me at linda@flowersmadesimple.net if I can be of more help.
