A few months back, the Home & Garden Section of the Los Angeles Times mentioned that this was the year of the owl. If you haven't gotten your owl on yet, you might consider succumbing to this planter for your garden.

Handmade by Etsy seller Fruit Fly Pie, this little guy would be a pleasant surprise tucked among other white pots and could even find a use inside, holding utensils in the kitchen, brushes in the bathroom or pens on your desk. Until you drill a hole in the bottom, he'd also work as a vase. After you modify him, tuck a glass inside to hold the water and flowers. Via Etsy. While this particular design is handmade, we also like this seller's other owls, slip cast from vintage molds from the 70s and washed with colour.
For superstitious people like my hubs, owls and cats should be put away this year because they eat rats (it's currently the Year of the Rat) and consume your "rat luck" along with it. Hubs made me hide my extensive collection of chirimen crepe cats and maneki nekos for this exact reason!

i love owl figurines
my mother used to say they are considered good luck in Peru. they should be positioned facing out windows or towards the entrance of the home to ward off thieves.
i'm always on the lookout for owls cuz they're so cute.
:-)

Huh, I thought we were into owls a few years ago... Once a motif has hit UO, like the owl has, it seems on the way out to me.

Owls are nothing new...not as in "oh, that was trendy five years ago" old, but truly old. Or maybe that's just me - when he passed away, each of his grandchildren received multiple items from my grandfather's owl collection, which dates back 65 years.
Hence I love them, trendy or not.

Owls were huge back in the late 60's/early '70's...
...right before everything had Mushrooms on it.

I found this same one at a thrift store--too cute to pass up. I store scissors in it.

Hey!!!!
My 4th grade class in Ohio started a ceramics company, the Crazy Clay Company, to teach us about running a business - I made this very same owl for my Mom as a
Mother's Day gift!!!!!!
My version was an earthy, mottled green-gold, not white.
So funny!!!!!!!

I think Fruit Fly Pie ceramics are timeless and lovely.
For me home decor is dictated by my personal taste and style. I try not to be a slave to what's "trendy". I love owls and I don't care if they are hot or not.
I look to magazines and creative sites like this one for inspiration and ideas not to find out if I'm current.

To this day, the wise old owl from the Tootsie Pop commercials is one of my favorite childhood icons.
