apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Smith & Hawken's Water Wiggler

915025-m.jpgOutside of our apartment sits a bone dry garden fountain. Whether in jest or in actual affinity, previous tenants decorated the garden with a bladder relieving cherub statuary that continues to aim, but never fires. It's remained drier than a Mormon nightclub since our neighbors' departure; they took both the fountain pump and all desire of public urination as a garden decorative accent with them.

I've often considered removing P. Boy and filling the water fountain anew as a birdbath, since it would be nice to invite local avian friends to bath and hangout in front. But I've always worried about the breeding of mosquitos in stagnant water. So I was happy to find Smith & Hawken's "Water Wiggler", a mechanism that gently, but continually, creates ripples in the water to prevent Mrs. Margerie Mosquito from setting up nursery in your birdbath. Two double D batteries keep the water rippling for 24 hours a day, for up to 2 months, all for $39.00.
