I hope that i don't disqualify myself for this-but I don't use a bunch of green products, as some of them are quite pricey, and as my 15 year old says "flavor of the minute." I do use Dr. Bronners throughout my house, as well as vinegar and baking soda; we tend to be green by using less of stuff, more elbow grease and low impact behaviors. We've basically been green for years due to simple living.

My newest green product use is to rub down the inside of my shoes every night with hydrogen peroxide. It helps to kill the little stinky germs that live in there, so then I can keep my shoes longer.

i have been using carol's daughter for a couple of years and the lotions leave the skin feeling silky their "groove" fragrance is nice on a man or a woman. many of the products i have purchased my husband likes to use because "they don't smell all girly and obnoxious". they have nice natural smells and for the most part the ingredients are pure and simple. the lady who started this company was on a mission to make natural beauty products and i don't think growing in size has hurt that foundation.

I'm a big fan of Dr. Brommer's soap, and have been for many years. This soap really is magical. I am a performer and I use heavy grease-paint, and Dr. Brommer's is the only animal friendly soap that does the job!
And for day to day use I like Burt's Bees - I'm a Maine girl at heart, and Burt's products smell, look, and where applicable, taste fabulous.
And finally, when it comes to household cleaning, well, I'm happy with a little 50/50 water-vinegar solution.

I recommend "Daisy Diva Cups" for girrrls on their rag. All of the tampons and pads that women use 5 days out of the month, 60 days out of the year, get placed somewhere and that is bad for the environment! All you ladies out there should spiffy up your apartment by adding the Daisy reusable silicone cup to your bathroom drawer. Thanks!

I'll stick with beauty products, of which my current (and long term) faves are:
Suki (on the expensive side, but luxurious and scrupulously green)
Aubrey (few companies are cleaner and the products--especially hair--are simply great)
Burt's Bees (green on a budget; great lotions and lip balm)
Dr Hauschka (when Suki's prices went up, I tried Dr. H and my skin is truly thanking me for it)
Of course Dr. Bronner's--since I was a tween! I make some of my own stuff too, but sometimes I have to be girly and buy stuff, or I can't get the scents just right.

I try to use green cleaning products like vinegar and the city's green bin composting program, but also, I try to be more aware of what & how I'm throwing things away. As weird as it sounds, one example is that I try to be more aware of what I'm flushing down the toilet since it takes energy to clean that water in the treatment plants. No more throwing cotton puffs, matchsticks or hair from the shower into the toilet.

Vinegar, lemon juice, essential oils and when I find it on sale, Mrs. Meyer's lavender all-purpose cleaner, which makes the house smell heavenly. Trader Joe's or Ecover for laundry. Homemade lavender sachets in linen closet and dresser drawers. Baking soda to clean sinks, toilet, jewelry, fixtures (and whiten teeth!) Rosemary or lavender oil, glycerin mixed in spray bottle with alcohol/water = great freshening spray (for linens, stinky shoes, even pets and on a hot day, people).

There are tons of natural, household products:

baking soda:
-as abrasive as commercial cleansers
-deodorizer (not just for your fridge, but sprinkle on your carpet and vacuum up. or sprinkle some in your kitty box for those oh-so-unpleasant smells)

vinegar:
-one part water to one part vinegar and you've got yourself a great all-purpose cleaner (the smell goes away once it dries too)
-fabric softener (freat for sensitive skin). just use ½ cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle .

lemon juice:
-1 cup olive oil ½ cup lemon juice = furniture polish

I use white vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice for most of my cleaning.
List of the most common nasty chemicals to be avoided at all costs:
Ammonia - check your window and glass cleaner, this is a potential lung irritant.
Antibacterial agents - it is believed that these lead to an increase in “antibiotic resistant” bacteria. Allow the body to be exposed to germs naturally by way of skin exposure and T1 resistance (the first line of defense) will be stimulated. A sterile home does not protect your health.
Chlorine Bleach - so smelly and a major irritant to skin and lungs, potentially asthmatic.
Petroleum - known as surfactants in detergents, paraffins in polishes all derived from the “petroleum pollution” industry.
Phosphates - causes algae to form in water systems which damages marine life.
Phthalates - do you really love that “clean smell”? Linked to cancer and respiratory diseases in lab animals.
Nitrobenzene - an agent in polishes, associated with cancer, birth defects and even death.

I've been a fan of Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap for a while now. I love to discover new green products.

I use a mixture of vinegar and water in place of many household cleaners that have chemicals!

I use mostly Method products and for refreshing fabrics I use
a combination of lemon oil and water (instead of Febreze).
