April in November: April Vase

111507april.jpg

Oh my! Pretty poppies in a pretty vase made us stop and sigh. We've still been buying ourselves flowers every week and really wish that poppies were in season. We'll make due with the sweet April Vase made in, where else? France.

"Made of twenty-one connected tubes, the vase flexes easily into various snake-like shapes. It can also form a circle and the tubes can be placed at different heights. Multiple April Vases can be connected, making the possibilities for arranging endless. Start using it in April, when your spring flowers begin to open. You won't put it away until the blooms stop coming. Designed and made in France, it measures 28" in length and comes with one replacement tube. Additional tubes can be purchased separately."

This vase reminds me of one I saw years ago. It was made with test tubes interspersed with sticks of bamboo of a slightly longer length. Even on top with the test tubes, the bamboo sticks projected below the test tubes a bit so that the tubes wouldn't touch the surface on which the vase rested. The whole bundle was wound with raffia to hold everything together. It was simple, natural and elegant. I collected the materials needed to make one but
never got around to it and eventually turned the bamboo to a different use. I like this vase, too, but the simple, natural one appeals to me more, especially at this one's $198 price tag.

oh, but check out the designers' website--they make fantastic dishes and so much more than this vase (which is kind of ubiquitous)!! (the silver umbrellas are to die for.)
