Around our neighborhood, bio-diesel powered cars are more common than the fast food restaurants that source and power them (thank goodness). Their characteristic smell and the chortle of their diesel engines are signs that notable small steps toward improved energy independence are being made by individuals around our parts...definitely a good thing here in auto-centric LA. Now Southern Californians also have the option of moving powered by bio-diesel through the services of Go Green Moving, a moving company that uses a fleet of bio-diesel trucks...
Go Green Moving is the only eco-friendly moving company based in Southern California utilizing bio-diesel trucks, for both local or intra-state moves. They also use recycled cotton moving pads and other equipment made from recycled materials as small steps for a less wasteful move.
Local rates start at $88/hour for two men and a bio-diesel truck, with each additional mover costing $34/hour. Other rates listed:
Fuel Surcharge: $0
Overtime: $0
Protective Wrap: $0
Piano service: $0
Carpet mask: $0
Intrastate Rates – Determined by mileage and weight
Storage: Short term on the truck—$100/day
Vault (7ftx7ftx5ft crate w/pads)—$41/month
Great Resource - I hope they succeed!

I hope that other companies either take notice of their efforts, or that they expand to other cities and states. They would get my moving business any day.

This is really great. I too hope that more companies utilizing fleets of diesel vehicles consider using bio-diesel. If there's more demand for it on a large scale level, it will become more available and the resources for producing it will increase (ie: algae farms!).
We drive a bio-diesel powered mercedes and its not nearly as common on the East Coast as it is on the West, but its always awesome to smell the telltale smell of a veggie powered diesel engine.

It is great to see other moving companies taking steps to go greenâespecially since the nature of our industry uses so much fuel. My company, NorthStar Moving, based in Chatsworth, CA just recently converted all of our trucks to biodiesel. We also use a battery powered lift gate on one of our trucks so that we can conserve fuel during the move.
